About the course

Internationally recognised certificate from American Heart Association.

The Heartsaver First Aid with CPR & AED course is intended primarly for those who are expected to provide First Aid and CPR (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation) in their workplace.  The course provides hands-on practise, DVD based training, in the skills of First Aid for Adults, including medical & environmental emergencies, injuries, CPR and choking for Adults and the use of an AED (Auto External Defibrillator)
  • First Aid basics (scene safety, finding the problem, calling for help)
  • Injury emergencies (action for bleeding, broken bones and burns)
    • Medical emergencies (action for choking, breathing problems, shock)
  • Medical emergencies (action for choking, breathing problems, shock)
  • Environmental emergencies (bites and stings, temperature and poison related)
  • Adult CPR & AED  
  • Optional: Child CPR & AED and Infant CPR

Who can benefit

The Heartsaver First Aid, CPR & AED Course is intended for all employees in the workplace, persons wanting to learn First Aid, CPR and the use of the AED and Family members of patients at risk. All responders such as commercial airline crews, care givers, fire fighters, police, security personnel, sport couches, life guards etc. 

Training material

Learners receive a 126-page full colour student workbook to review before, during and after the course.  There is also a First Aid quick reference guide included with the work book. Two pocket size “reminder cards” are included with the workbook, displaying the correct steps for adult, child and infant CPR, including the use of an AED.  It also includes information on the recognition of heart attacks and strokes. The participants will be assessed on their practical and required to complete a written assessment after training.
 

Learner pre-requisites

The participant does not need to be a Healthcare Provider to attend the course and is widely recommended as First Aid and CPR are essential skills. However the participant should have carefully read through the manual prior to the day of training.
 

Course duration

7 ½ hours 
 

Certification & CPD Points

An American Heart Association completion card is issued on successful completion of the course. It is valid for 2 years. A 7 CPD points certificate for HPSCA registered candidates is issued.

Clothing for training

Wear suitable clothing during the course due to the practical sessions incorporated. Jeans work well.
